Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why ComposersWorld.com?
A. After seeing our favorite composers starve through the centuries we decided to
do something about it. From Mozart to Bartok, composers failed to achieve enough
revenue to support themselves. Publishers have tried to help, but the harsh realities
of business prohibit them from being of much assistance.
Q. So how can you do better than a traditional publisher?
A. We do better because of the technology that allows us to distribute sheet music
electronically, and we ask for less for ourselves.
Q. How much better do you treat composers?
A. Traditional publishers pay 10% royalties, or less, of the wholesale price, while
we pay 85% of the retail price.
Q. How can I preview the music?
A. Look for the "Download sample mp3" link for each piece. If you don't
see it, it means we ae working on creating one for you and it will be added later.
Q. How do customers receive the music?
A. Instantly, via email, as soon as it is purchased with a credit card online.
Q. How do they print it out?
A. With any personal computer using Adobe
Acrobat, available free from Adobe.com.Download
Adobe Acrobat Reader here.
Q. Why is ComposersWorld.com compared to a cooperative?
A. Because we are like a cooperative in the sense that the members, composers, band
together to publish music and keep the revenue for themselves. We only charge a small
percentage to keep the site operational and to pay for advertising.
Q So how can your business make money?
A. We never intend to make a profit. We are sponsored by a world leader in ecommerce,
rm1.net and TrustCart,
both of whom do not need to make money from us.
Q. Can't you go out of business that way?
A. Any traditional publisher would fail with the royalties we charge. But we will
always be funded by outside sources so that composers can earn the income they deserve.
(It's too bad ComposersWorld.com wasn't around for Mozart!)
Q. Other publishers put my music out of print. What about ComposersWorld.com?
A. We guarantee to keep your music always available for downloading. If we break
our promise, you get your copyrights back and you are free then to publish elsewhere.
Q. Other publishers reject my music. What about ComposersWorld.com?
A. You decide what you publish. We never review music to decide what you publish.
We want you to publish all of your music with us.
Q. Is there a limit to how many pieces I publish with you?
A. No limit. You are under no obligation to send us all of your music, but why wouldn't
you?
Q. Is there a cost?
A. No cost whatsoever to the Composer.
Q. How do I get music to you?
A. You need to have it output in PDF format from a computer program.
Q. What if I don't have a computer?
A. We can help you find a service that for a nominal fee will input it for you.
Q. How can I publish with you?
A. Just call us at 513-616-0507 and we will get you set up.
